About us

I can’t speak Japanese! Will I be able to live and work in Japan?
English information is available all over Japan. It is not necessary to be able to speak Japanese to enjoy your stay. Most Japanese people have some degree of English ability and it is often easy to find someone who can help you in most situations. In addition, a lot of signs, notices and restaurant menus are in English. The Japanese staff in your branch will also be more than happy to help you with anything you are unsure of. Most people who come to teach in Japan are able to pick up some basic Japanese while they are here. We don’t use any Japanese in the classroom and you don’t need to know any Japanese to work in one of our branch schools. For people who wish to learn a little more Japanese language, Japanese is one of the nine languages offered through the Multimedia Center's videoconferencing system, and Japanese lessons can be taken at your workplace or from the comfort of your own home.
I don’t have any teaching experience, how can I teach English?
Don’t worry! NOVA Holdings offers full support to new Instructors arriving in Japan. You will receive initial training in addition to further training throughout your term of employment. All training at NOVA Holdings is paid. All new instructors spend their first days of work in training. The training program introduces new instructors to the basic skills and approach to teaching used at NOVA. Through presentations, lesson observations, workshops and hands-on experience, instructors learn to make appropriate lesson selection decisions, confidently teach smooth, coherent lessons and adapt materials and approaches to meet different students' needs using a variety of classroom management skills.
What qualifications are necessary?
The minimum qualification is to have completed at least 1 to 2 years of tertiary education. If you want us to arrange a working visa for you then you’ll need to have, or be expecting to receive, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Who will I be teaching?
NOVA Holdings offers language services to students of all ages. Lessons are taught to small groups of kids or adults. Students of kids classes are usually aged from 3 to 12 years, with adult lessons from the age of 13 years and up.
I’ve heard that Japan is a very expensive country. Is it possible to save money?
There’s no doubt that Japan can be an expensive place to visit as a tourist, but you’ll find that the situation is quite different when you’re earning a competitive salary in Japanese yen and living in reasonably priced accommodation. In fact, it’s quite easy to save money while maintaining a comfortable standard of living.
When will I start earning salary?
Salary is earned from the first day of training.
Where do I live while working in Japan?
Assistance can be provided for those instructors applying from outside Japan.
How long is the commitment?
Contract lengths are for 6 or 12 months. At the end of your contract, if you decide you want to stay longer, you can apply for another contract. Many of our instructors decide to stay for several years or more.
