Today was a hot and sunny day and the children of Kinder 3 were happy and a little sleepy, so we had a nice easy English lesson. We started by asking “When is your birthday?
To prepare, we first practiced the months January to December, which they know dry well. However, using the months, in this case their birthdays, proved a little tricky, so we counted months. For example, January is 1. February is 2, and so on.
Once we had the number and the month, the person would answer “It’s in (January)?” They then asked the instructor, which was great.
After that, we practiced some vocabulary. For this month, the theme is ‘Let’s go to the beach’. We played a reveal game and the children had to guess what the picture was. They had to try and use a full sentence “It’s a(n) …”
They did well with words that use ‘a’, a sea star, but words that use ‘an’ can still be tricky, an octopus. Though they could guess correctly when given a little hint, which is good. After the reveal game, we played “What’s missing?”
We reveal 6 cards so the children can remember what’s there. They then put down their heads and one card is hidden.
Once they lift their heads, they have to guess what is missing. We can raise the bar for the last round by hiding all six cards. The big “eehhh!” when they see no cards, followed by frantic guessing is always fun for everyone.
Finally, we practiced writing. They have been writing their names for a while, and they can write the letters well. Today, however, we were practicing letter size. Big and small letters together can be tough.
They were given a sheet of paper with blank English ruled lines on it. There were many “eehhh!” They watched a demonstration, focusing on size and writing slowly at first. Then it was their turn. They had to write their name, focusing on good size between big and small letters.
They did very well. Sizes were excellent, and they even tried to write their full names. Great focus.
With the writing complete and many big smiley faces awarded, it was time to say goodbye.
The children did very well today, giving good focus and energy when speaking, even with the heat taking its toll. Great job, everyone.
