Today, the Kinder 2 class started by saying hello.
They clapped, stomped, stretched, touched their toes, and turned around, finishing with a big, loud hello.
This was followed by a roll call. The children had to read their names, and the person named responded with “here!”
With “here” said, the other children give them a big clap.
With roll call finished, we moved on to looking at bugs. The children have looked at single bugs before, for example “It’s a ladybug.” Today they were looking at plurals, for example “They are ladybugs.”
They did very well with the “s” used for more than one thing, and are getting used to saying “They are …” instead of “It is … .” We also practiced trying to say the “th” sound using the tongue not the lips. This is tricky, but they had fun trying, especially holding their lips apart while saying the “th” sound.
With the vocab practiced, the children played Pictionary. They drew a picture of a bug and the other children had to guess what it was. First the instructor demonstrated the game.
Some guessed it was a ladybug, others a beetle. Those who guessed beetle were very happy. Then it was the children’s turn.
For this, after the children had guessed, the two most named animals were chosen. The kids then raised their hands to indicate which they chose.
The child who drew the picture then said what the animal was and the correct children cheered and jumped about.
After a few rounds, we said goodbye to the cards and stood up to sing a song. After sitting for a while it was time to move around to “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.”
Right after that, they sang the “Make a Circle” song and made a nice circle.
When the children had sat down, we looked at the alphabet. Today, they were trying to spell simple words by choosing the missing letter.
First, a “C” and “T” were put down. We read the sounds then tried to guess the word, in this case “CAT.” With the word known, they then guessed the missing letter “A.”
This was done for a few more words, eg “DOG”, with the last word being a harder word, “SPIDER.” Apparently they like spiders, because they got the word and the missing letter, “D”, very quickly. Nice!
With the letters put away, it was time to say goodbye.
The K2 children did very well, enjoyed dancing and moving to the songs and trying to say difficult sounds. Great job, everyone. Keep it up.
