Today marked the start of International week for the children of Nova Sendai Tomizawa Bilingual Nursery School. However, before we started looking at today’s countries, the K2 children sang the hello song to warm up.
Also, recently, one of the children had had their birthday. So we asked them about what kind of cake they got, and presents received.
Once the birthday questions had been answered, International week began. The children were handed their passports.
They all looked at the flags and tried to guess the name of the countries.
We listened to some music from today’s countries which were Australia and South Africa. They seemed to enjoy it.
With the country introductions complete the children lined up to go downstairs.
Once downstairs, they sat down and listened as they were told about famous foods and places, sports, and languages of each country.
For animals, the children were asked the animal’s names, and they knew many. For Australia, Kangaroos and Koalas were easy, and they did well with Whales and Turtles.
South Africa had many safari animals, Lions, Elephants, and Buffaloes were easy. Rhinoceroses and Leopards were a bit trickier.
They talked about food and whether they looked tasty or not. The Australian TimTam’s were universally liked.
When we finished looking at the posters, the children moved back upstairs and sat down. Now they received a stamp in their passports for each country they learned about.
The sticker was placed on the passport and they got to give it a good stamp down. When everyone had got their stamps, they lined up to return the passports.
Handing in their passports with a loud “Here you are.” Very good.
Then it was time to say goodbye. Everyone enjoyed learning about Australia and South Africa. They gave the languages a go saying “G’day,” Australian for “hello,”and “Dankie,” Afrikaans for “Thank you.” They are looking forward to learning about the next few countries.

So many tools! Last night it rained so the sand is perfect for making things.
