table といえば、机という意味があるけど、まとまったフレーズにすると
全く異なる意味を持つんだ。
今日は table を使ったいろいろな表現を紹介するね。

■on the table：「検討中で、議論中で」という意味。
There are some offers on the table.
（検討中のオファーがいくつかあります。）

■off the table：「議論から外れる、考慮から外れる」という意味。
Anything expensive is off the table this time.
（値段が高いものは、今回は外します。）

■under the table：「不正に」という意味。
A: Why was that man arrested?
（その男性が逮捕されたのはなぜですか。）
B: He got some money under the table.
（不正にお金を受け取ったからだよ。）

「家具」としての table 以外にもいろいろな意味があっておもしろいね♪
