■Warmer weather is bad for kimchi
Kimchi is a popular food in South Korea, mainly made from napa cabbage. This cabbage grows best in cool weather, especially in mountain areas. However, rising temperatures are making it harder to grow napa cabbage. Farmers worry that if it gets too hot, they will not be able to produce kimchi in the summer.
Kimchi Master Lee Haeon explains that hot weather causes the cabbage to spoil. By 2090, there may be no suitable places to grow cabbage in the mountains.
Additionally, many South Korean restaurants are buying cheaper kimchi from China, spending around $98 million this year. To adapt, farmers are trying new methods, like growing cabbage in temperature-controlled rooms, but this may increase costs. Despite the challenges, farmers are determined to keep making kimchi for years to come.

キムチは韓国で人気のある食品で、主に白菜から作られています。この白菜は涼しい気候、特に山岳地帯でよく育ちます。しかし、気温の上昇により、白菜を育てることが難しくなっています。農家は、気温が高すぎると夏にキムチを生産できなくなるのではないかと心配しています。
キムチの達人、イ・ヘオン氏は、暑い天候が白菜を傷める原因だと説明しています。2090年までには、山の中に白菜を育てるのに適した場所がなくなるかもしれません。
