■Tupperware files for bankruptcy
Tupperware, a leading plastic container company, has filed for bankruptcy due to financial difficulties. Bankruptcy occurs when a company cannot pay its debts, prompting government assistance, which can either help the company stay afloat or lead to its closure.
Tupperware owns between $500 million and $1 billion in property but owes between $1 billion and $10 billion to over 50,000 creditors.
After announcing its bankruptcy, Tupperware’s stock value dropped by 50%.
The company has faced financial challenges since 2021, leading to the closure of its U.S. factory in June, which employed around 150 people.
■タッパーウェアが破産申請をした
タッパーウェアは、財政的な困難により破産申請を行った、プラスチック容器の大手企業です。
破産申請は、企業が負債を支払えなくなった場合に手続きが行われ、政府からの支援を受けることになるが、この支援により、企業が存続できるように助けるか、または閉鎖に至るかのいずれかとなります。
タッパーウェアは、5億ドルから10億ドルの資産を所有していますが、負債は10億ドルから100億ドルにのぼり、5万人以上の債権者に対して支払い義務があります。
破産を発表した後、タッパーウェアの株価は50%下落しました。
タッパーウェアは2021年から財政的な課題に直面しており、その結果、6月にはアメリカの工場を閉鎖し、約150人の従業員が影響を受けました。
