今回はウマにまつわる英語表現をいくつかご紹介するよ♪
■ dark horse
予想外の成功を収めるかもしれない実力者を指す表現だよ。
日本語の「ダークホース」と同じようなニュアンスで用いられるよ。
The three authors in the running for this year’s prize include two well-known writers and one dark horse who’s just published her first novel.
（今年の賞候補者は 3 名で、そのうち 2 名は有名な作家、そしてもう 1 名は初の小説を出したばかりのダークホースだ。）
■ eat like a horse
ある人物が大食いである様子を指すよ。
日本語にも「鯨飲馬食」という表現があるよね。
Contrary to his appearance, he eats like a horse.
（彼は外見に反して、大食漢だ。）
■ horse of a different color
「別の話」や「話が違う」といった意味を表すよ。
I thought we agreed on pizza for dinner, but now you want sushi? Well, that’s a horse of a different color.
(夕食はピザにしようって話だったのに、今になって寿司にしたいって？話が違うよ。)
